The WEA hosted a consumer rights forum on the electricity industry in Wellington today. The meeting, chaired by former Consumer Institute CEO David Russell, featured leading industry experts and government officials.
The full audience heard of the continually rising prices of domestic electricity, and the role played by monopolies and privatisation.
Speakers included: Dr Geoff Bertram, senior associate of the Institute for Governance and Policy Studies (IGPS), Victoria University of Wellington; Ian McChesney, co-founder of Community Energy Action and contract analyst for the IGPS; Carl Hansen, CEO of the Electricity Authority; and Mike Underhill, CEO of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority. Representatives of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, and the Ministry of Social Development also spoke.
The meeting was organised by the Domestic Energy Users’ Network. The venue was provided by Rural Women NZ.
